- John engaged in business for years in Belfast and later moved to China, Michigan. General History of the State of Michigan - 1837 Prrs. Jackson appointed John Clark commissioner to acquire the title of the Indians to the lands they claimed in Michigan - he then petitioned for statehood. 2 terms state legislature. He was Captain of the steamer Gen. Gratiot.
