- Isaac was of Rockland, ME at marriage. Colby College honorary graduate - 1856 and received his degree form madison University in 1857. He went to Kansas and founded Ottawa University. He was representative to the Kansas legislature in 1872. Isaac was nicknamed "Golden Voice" and went to San Francisco in 1875 were he was mayor from 1879-1882. He became the 'working man's candidate' for Mayor of San Francisco and was shot by Charles De Young just before the election and won a sympathy vote. His son Isaac went on to kill De Young in 1880.
