Francis was a Yale University graduate. He was a photographer in the Bangor area for 25 years and then moved to Brooklyn, NY. A Francis W. Hardy age 40 photographer living with wife Helen M. age 30 in 1870 Census of Bangor, ME all born ME. F. W. or W. Active as an ambrotypist, Maine St. Bangor, ME 1859, 1860 listed in partnership as J. P. and W. Hardy. In 1875-6 Directory of Bangor as is father Jeremiah. Frank 1880 Census of Bangor with daughter's Mary Ellen age 18, Hattie Hill age 16 and Nellie F. age 12., his occ. - photographer, widower. In 1900 census of Bangor, Anna E. Hardy has living with her Mary E. and Harriet H. 'nieces'.

Francis married Hills, Martha on 23 Sep 1858. Martha died in 1865. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Francis married Stilson, Helen Marion on 8 May 1867 in Knox Co., Illinois. Helen (daughter of Stilson, Lemuel A. and Atwood, Rhoda Sears) was born in C 1840 in ME probably Waterville; died in 1876 in prob. Bangor, ME; was buried in Locust Grove Cem., Hampden, ME. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
