- George is alone in 1840 Census. He was of Vassalboro at marriage. A George Carlton opened a dry-goods store in Taycheedah, Wisconsin in 1842. Also in 1842 a John W. Philbrick and family arrived in the village and opened the first tinshop in the county. (Waterville's John W. Philbrick was said to have gone to Wisconsin.) A George was born to John 16-Sept-1811 Newburyport, MA. They are in 1860 Census of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. George age 75 living with son Frederick's family in 1880 Census of LaCrosse,Wisconsin.
