- IN 1840 Census Nathaniel born 1800-1810 with another male age 80-90 living with them. He is of New York at marriage. Family genealogy says had 3 children who died in infancy. 1850 Census of Brooklyn, NY has he, Anna, Willis P. and infant. Name spelled Gillman and his occ. 'leather dealer'. Living with Nathaniel Jr. in 1840 is probably his father, Nathaniel, who settled in Waterville in 1802 and is in 1820 census of Waterville. He built ships here and at Bath and traded in the West Indies and India. The bulk of his wealth was made in the leather industry in New York City.
