- John was a graduate of Bowdoin College, class of 1878. He was a school principal in Atlantic City, NJ until 1879 when he entered the newspaper business where he was editor of the Daily Union. He is in the 1880 census of Atlantic City, NJ 'editor' - single. He became the publisher in 1888. John and Eliza are in 1900 census of Atlantic City, New Jersey. They were married 20 years - no children. John's occupation 'publisher'. In 1901 he changed the name of the Daily Union to the Evening Union only to sell it. He is listed as 'truant officer' in 1910 census.
