1898

Jan 1st Snowed when we got up & continued to till about 3 PM sun shone out bright wind blew hard snow in heaps.  I have mended all day.  K had head ache, did'nt get up till most noon.  N & Mary     do­ne work.  Neddie helped C Warren.  I have lived to day in the past & thought of absent friends.

 2nd Clear cold day.  Eddie carried 4 of the children up to Sab school - no meeting. K went down to Annies, stopped to the evening meeting.  Stevie gone up.  Eddie & F went with team & shovelled on the road this morn as Horn came up they thought about 10 inches fell & it blew in heaps.  I have written to Elmer  & read & thought of those that are gone.

3rd Very cold day & Neddie said it was an awful cold night.  I helped wash little in forenoon then mended.  Eddie went in forenoon to mill, afternoon went with 1 load hay to Benton Station for Mr. A Hodges.  K & Ned went to Watt"  Pearl is not very well, she has 2 teeth Nellie did'nt go to bed till 11 oclock, then she cried in the night.

 Jan 1898

4th Very cold to day & is this eve but Eddie N, M, C, F, & Ned have gone over to Cora Skillins to a sociable.  Kate & Stevie stay at home which is a good place.  I have seen the time I would like to go. 

5th Snowed when we got up & did till noon then sun shone out bright.  About 4 Kate said it looked like rain, it is warmer beautiful eve. Moon shines bright. All had a nice time last night.  They got little over 5.00  It was very cold eve & drifted some. F went over to S Fullers this morn.  N has ironed some. I dressed butter & put up box & sent to Old Town.

 6th Not as cold.  Sun & some cloudy.  I have mended. N done most of work in forenoon, after dinner Eddie carried her to Mr A Hodges, then drove to Watt"  He went down to tea & Mary & Rufus stopped with Kate Hodges, Ned & K went to the office & rode over to K Mills.  Beautiful eve.

 7th When we got up water was running into cistern. It rained little till most noon.  after dinner sun shone out bright & Eddie & L hauled load of hay for Mr. Coleman.  It is a beautiful eve.  Eddie & K & Ned gone to the Grange.  It is quite cold to night  wind blew hard in afternoon.

 8th Cloudy & spit snow but about 4 PM sun shone bright & it is beautiful eve moon shines bright.  Ned worked for Mr Coleman hauling wood.  Eddie & L done chores & hauled up some oak for wood-K been sewing on her Mother"s wrapper. I have mended N & Mary done work & think they are tired.

 9th The 2nd Sab" in the year & I enjoyed going to church although I cannot hear all Mr Wms says but O how I miss H.  Mr W & wife stopped here to tea Was glad to see them.  Mrs W said Mrs Cornish is quite sick, she does not know any one, how sad to be bereft of reason.

 10th Nice day to wash, not rainy cold.  Eddie  went to Watt" & Sidney with Heifers sold 1.  all abed I must go as I feel tired & my back & hips ache.

 11th Beautiful day, not very cold.  Eddie & rest of neighbors got Alton Hodges ice up & packed it. He had a sick night & this morn he sent for Simon Brown & made his will.  Is better to night.  Girls ironed some,  I mended twins pants.

Jan 1898

 12th Cloudy all day, snowed little, then rained little.  A lone­some day.  Eddie & F got up some wood & cleaned out henhouse.  Neddie helped Warren Fuller get ice.  Emma had to give up her school was sick, I am sorry.  Mr Taylor brought a student this morn.  Girls been busy. I mended hose.  K gone up to reading club.  Jo" Reed with his horses & sled carried a load of the

Endeavorous out to the Baptist house as they were invited out.  Mr W & wife were there.  I was glad. Ned went school.

 13th Rained & snowed little in morn, before noon sun shone bright, stars thick this eve.  Ruth is _ old to day.  Kate & Harvey & George Hodges here this eve. Churned & mended, girls done work & finished ironing.  Nell got box from Sarah Hovey.

 14th Nice day. I have mended all day. K fixed my black waist. N has cooked. Eddie got a colt clipped, they call guy Pd 1.50  K & Stevie gone up to C E meeting.  Neddie worked for Warren Fuller getting up ice.  It has seemed a long day, will go to bed. 

15th Cloudy, snowed very little all day.  Eddie  & boys got their ice 61 cakes, gave 2.50 for cutting.  Will Reynolds cut it down by Wm Garlands & they packed it as they hauled it, am glad tis done.  I mended Stevie's overcoat & knit.  Nell cooked. K mended.  I will read little then go to bed, but O dont sleep well.

 16th Nice day.  Nell & 6 children went to church.  Eddie did'nt go, good number out, how much I have thought of Hanes, we always went to meeting when well & enjoyed going, & when I go to the table I always think of him.

17th Cold morn & quite a cold day, but a nice day to wash, got done before noon, not as large as usual.  Eddie went to Fort Pd part of his tax & sold heater to Jock.  After dinner he went to Watt" with a colt, K & Maud Taylor went with him.  Neddie dont want to go to school, so his father told him he could go with F & cut some wood.  I wish he loved to go to school.  I have written to Joan this afternoon & knit

 18th Cold morn & day wind blew clothes dry & N has ironed some & mended horse blanket.  Kate & Maud Taylor have a sociable at the hall to night. Eddie  F & Rufus have gone K went up this after­noon. Ned & _ been cutting wood E hauled up 3 loads. 

19th Nice bright day but quite cold.  A surprise party at C Warrens this eve.  Eddie , wife & Ned have gone.  Katie & her father went down this afternoon & told them as they thought it would not be right as Flo is alone.  Eddie helped 6 fix for horses & K helped Flo", came home & take care of Pearl.  I have mended & finished a square of patchwork to send to Joan L in Haverhill, a tree.

20th Cloudy morn began to snow about 9 in morn, has little all day.  How much I have thought of H and of Mrs McCaslin who is sick at James Crosby's, if living.  No near friend to care for her excepting a boy who works in the factory.  Said he would pay any one that would take care of her.  I have mended hose &         mit­tens. Eddie  & boys got up wood.

 21st Cloudy all day, snowed little.  Eddie done chores & drove colt, Ned & F cut wood.  F got done at Fullers came home this afternoon & he, Ned & K have gone down to the Grange.  I have mended Eddie's woolen frock, girls done work.

 22nd Cloudy all day Snowed little in forenoon.  Eddie hauled up 4 loads of wood then went to mill.  Ned worked for mr Coleman.  F has washed & oiled a harness  F & M done work, N mended & took care of Pearl. I have mended.

 23rd It has snowed & blowed this afternoon: no meeting in fore­noon.  E called to see Stephen Abbott, been sick, is better. It has been a long lonely day no one to come in & talk with me.  How I do miss H, but there is one that sticketh closer than a          broth­er.

 24th Nice day to wash Eddie & boys been breaking roads most all day. Heardthat Elma Abbott has the grip.  It affects his heart.  Very sick yesterdsy.  Must go to bed as my head aches. 

25th Nice bright day.  Eddie  & boys fixed seats on a sled.  Jo" Reed put his horses on with Eddie's and they have gone down to Mr Wms to a donation party, carried 24.  This is Kates Birthday, 20 yrs old, it seems like a dream

 26th Stormy blowing day.  It snowed when they came home last night (or rather this morn) for it was after 2 oclock when Eddie  got his horses put up & just 3 when he got into bed, so they have done chores took up zinc in kitchen & this afternoon F worked for James.  N ironed some & cooked & K sewed. I mended Buffalo & shirts, stars shine this eve.

 27th Nice day. E broke roads in forenoon, then went to K Mills.  Kate went over to Mr Blakney's stops to night.  Nell has cooked I have mended hose & mittens.  Ned & F cut wood.  F worked for James, I feel tired will go to bed.

 28th Clear cold day.  Eddie & Ned hauled up some wood in fore­noon, then E drove colts, went to Watt" & to K Mills got K & Mabel B came with them.  Nellie went up to Henry Records this afternoon.  E went up to tea got home about 9  Kate, Stevie, & Rufus went to the C E meeting.  Mr W & wife took tea with Mrs G Reed.  I have mended, heard that a Mr Horn of Waterville had cancer died yesterday.  Neuralgia of the heart.

 Jan 1898

29th Very cold morn & day; this morn 30 below zero and E says it is a very cold night.  E hauled wood in forenoon, Then went to F Mills with colts. N & L cut wood.  H Washed light double harness­es.  N has cooked all day. F ironed & swept & helped. I have mended & thought of absent friends.

 30th Pleasant but quite cold.  E said at noon below zero.  He & N & 8 children went to church.  F did'nt go as Mabel here & could­'nt go. I should like to have gone, but thought best not to go.  As I sit in my room all alone how I do miss Hanes. 

31st The last day of Jan".  How time passed.  It has snowed little all day.  We washed white clothes in tub.  The teacher staid with us to night.  His name is Charles Clement.

 Feb 1st It stormed all night & the wind blew fearfully so I could not sleep & it has snowed & blowed all day.  No school, so the teacher is here. It has blowed so they did'nt break roads, It seems as though I never saw it drifted so badly.  N & I been mending.  F & M done work.  F has had the head ache.  Neddie has washed a harness & began to oil it. 

2nd Candlemas day.  Sun has shone bright all day not quite as cold.  Eddie, F & Ned been shovelling & breaking roads all day, not done.  F worked on her Mothers dress.  N & M done work.  I mended hose & mittens.  Stevie went to school only 5 there teacher went home to night.  Heard that Mrs Madison Abbott died Monday morn, had pneumonia, was most 82 yrs old.  Stephen has had the grippe has'nt been out for a week.  Eddie went up this eve. 

3rd Nice day for the funeral, bright but quite cold.  Eddie & Nell went.  They had a Methodist minister from K Mills.  Stephen said they would like to have had Mr  Wms but O the drifts. F L & Ned been shovelling on cross road, not done.  No trains went through K Mills Feb" 1st none started out of Boston.  heard that one of Byron Crosby's boys who was teaching out of Portland was struck by the cars & was killed also a man & horse at K Mills Monday night .  I washed some dishes & mended.  K worked on dress what time she could get. Hanes has been in my mind all day will go to bed.

 4th Beautiful day. Eddie worked on road with horses in forenoon & boys shoveled some in the woods.  After dinner they went in with horses, got some wood. N has cooked & ironed some.  I mended twins waists.  Have not felt very well.

 Feb 1898

5th Cloudy day but sun has shone little.  Eddie & Ned hauled load   Pearl is 8 months old to dayof hay for Mr Coleman in forenoon.  After dinner they helped     Amos Hinds Called break a road on river.  Ned took C Coleman's team, as Charles is about sick I had head ache but we churned & Nellie helped me work the butter.  I am tired to day.

 6th Nice bright day, rained little last night then snowed lit­tle. Moon shines bright this eve.  George Learned & wife came here about 11, staid till most night so none went to church but Stevie, Mary & Ruth.  It has'nt seemed like Sunday - how often I have thought of H.  I dont feel very well. 

7th Nice day to wash & had a large one. I helped till  8 then stopped awhile.  F & L been cutting wood.  Eddie & Ned hauled down the last corn stalks in forenoon.  After dinner hauled up some wood, then E went to the Mills.  I think N & K are tired, believe I never was so tired.

 8th Cloudy most all day.  L & F cut wood.  Eddie & Ned went with colts.  After dinner E & F went to Watt". I mended, have not felt very smart.  N & F done work.  Heard that Mr Nathan Bailey was buried to day, age about 80,  It says "Be ye also ready".

 9th Cloudy foggy morn, been quite warm. Eddie got Mr Palmer to fix a jumper to drive colts in.  Eddie carried Mabel home, she came over Jan" 28th  boys got up little wood. L cleaned henhouse N has ironed some F done work I mended. It has been a long day.

 10th Beautiful day.  Eddie & boys hauled down 3 loads of hay from upper barn then E drove to K Mills & carried his mother up to Sue Crosby's.  E went to tea. I have mended. 

11th Cloudy misty day, quite warm. E went to K Mills & Watt.  Boys hauled few logs down to the mill.  Said in the paper that Jo" Percival was dead a man that F thought was an honest man.

 12th Cloudy in afternoon very foggy. E got horses shod & got some sawdust. Ned worked for C Warren.  Men have gone home.  Churned, swept my room & mended. It has been a lonely day to me but my prayer is "Nearer my God to thee"

 13th Beautiful day. Eddie & 5 children went to church a good number out. F & Steve gone this eve. I have written to Asenath.  Frank is 22 yrs old to day.  Mr Wms stops this eve. It has been a long day: have read a sermon by Moody.

 Feb 1898

14th Nice day to wash, wind blew , most of the clothes dry & in.  Eddie & F hauled few logs to the mill, & little wood up to the door then E drove colts. Ned worked for C Warren.  Nell & S dressed 2 hens this eve: I am tired think the girls are. H down to the Mill.

15th Cloudy & misty part of the day.  I went up to Sue Crosby's about 10 AM spent the day, had a nice visit, got home before dark.  Mrs A Hodges called. H helps saw shingle bolts in eve.  Ned worked for C W Eddie heard that Mr Sears was found dead in bed this morn.  How loudly it speaks to us all, "Be Ye also ready"

 16th Cloudy stormy day & it is about 5 PM it seems almost like a blizzard.  Eddie has gone to the Mills with a colt a man was there buying horses. Hope he will get home all right.  I have mended 11 meal bags & got more to mend, they are torn & mice gnawed them.  girls cooked & ironed some Ned & Rufus went to Mill.

 17th Wind blew very hard last night, but it has been a nice day & they have been on the road to work; amt' over 5.00.  Ned worked at the mill last eve. I finished mending M bags.  Mr Burke went home to day as there is not much shingle stuff & roads are bad.  girls done work & sewed some.  Eddie sold his colt Guy to a man for 160 dollars I am glad.

 18th Sunshine & clouds.  Eddie  & F got Phosphate home am glad then after dinner he & Kate went to Watt" got back about 4 then he & Stevie went to Clinton with Guy he is shipped from there with other horses.  F & Ned gone to the Grange.  K stopped down Thomas Wms came up this afternoon goes back with his father went Etta Warren came home has had the measles up with Stevie to C E Meeting.  I have mended all day. Ned worked for C W

19th Bright morn then clouded up little while but has been a beautiful day.  Eddie & N went out to Mrs Sears.  She has been sick abed 2 weeks, has a bad cough.  Mr S went out doors the day before he died, it was sudden.  I have mended all day. K & M done work, Ruth helped take care of Pearl & she has been as good as a kitten.  After E got home most 4 he went to K Mills. 

20th Sun rose bright, sky very red: then clouded up & after dinner began to snow little.  It does this eve.  Mr Wms & wife stopped here to tea.  No meeting this eve.  K heard that James Crosby"s daughter is sick, lies in a stupor poor Motherless girl, since hearing about her, I have thought of dear Katie who is at rest in Heaven I hope & trust.

 Feb 1898

21st Cloudy stormy day.  We washed some clothes in tub.  K has sewed on her Mothers skirt.  F separated the hens he says we have 48 not many pullets.  Stevie worked for James this afternoon. Lib cleaned hen house. wind blows hard to night cross road all full.  Got Paper from Fannie B her sister Mrs Straw lost 2 little girls with scarlet fever.

 22nd Anniversary of Washington's birth day.  It has been a stormy day, not a team has passed.  Eddie churned & I dressed butter & mended, have not felt very well, quite a cold in my head.  E & F sawed some wood, girls done work, K finished her Mother's dress. Such days how I do miss Hanes. 

23rd Eddie & boys broke roads, had to shovel on cross road, all full, snows this eve.  Been a lonesome day. N & M done work. K sewed, I mended & finished 2 night caps. 

24th Nice day to dry clothes & N washed Prints & 4 blankets then rode over to James Crosby's.  His daughter very sick.  I mended hose boys sawed some wood done chores. 

25th Nice day.  Eddie & F hauled a load of hay for Mr Coleman had to shovel good deal.  E said to night he was tired.  N has had the head ache. K swept chambers , N ironed F went to Watt" in fore­noon , then mended tin pans to night.  ? has gone to the Fort to a dance.  Kate & Stevie gone to C E meeting wish F felt like going.  I made pair of sleeves, put in S shirt & mended Rufus Pants he went down to Mr Wms with F stays Sunday night.  

26th Snowed in forenoon. E & F hauled a load of hay for Mr Cole­man afternoon drove colts.  Churned F helped me. finished hose I was footing, took up pair for Ruth.  Mary not well to day 

27th Snowed little this morn.  Eddie & N rode over to J Crosby's his daughter died yesterday, E N & 8 chil­dren went to church heard Shephard Brown died yesterday, been sick some time: One by one are passing over soon my turn will come. May I be ready is my prayer.                              

28th Nice day to wash, clothes all dry & in & N has ironed some.  Eddie , N & F went to funeral of James Crosby's daughter.  Mr Wms attended.  Am sleepy will go to bed.

 Mar 1898

1st Beautiful day.  Eddie, wife , Pearl, Ruth, & twins went down to Mr Wms started about 9; got home before dark.  Rufus been down there 2 or 3 days & Fannie came up with them, quite a pung full.  Mr A Hodges Colt ran away broke his sleigh & hurt him put his Shoulder out of Joint.  I helped K some she called down to Mr H's.  About 5 E went to K Mills put up his horse & quite a number went to Oakland in the cars to a Lodge meeting got home about 2 in morn. K went over with him stopped all night with M & went to Mr Blakney's.

 2nd Another nice day. N done work M & I helped some.  I scrubbed teaspoons, some tins & pans & milk pails & knit some but feel tired.  F,H,S,& Mary gone to Reading  Club

 3rd Nice day.  Annie was down spent the day with her children.  I mended hose & mittens.  Heard that Mrs Sullivan Abbot died this morn, also that Mr Wm Hodges had a shock, was blind & could'nt talk.  As the Poet says"Tis easy to rejoice when sun beams shine". But God alone can teach us to resign.  Nearer my God to thee is my prayer.

 4th Beautiful day. I have been up to Martha Lunt's. she is 74 yrs old to day.  When I got there found Mr & Mrs Appleton Reed, he is 76 & his wife 72, William is 76.  At the dinner table there were 5 over 70 & Sara Coombs was there.  Eddie , N, F & Ned gone to the Grange.

 5th Another nice day. Churned & sewed & knit.  girls cooked   It is beautiful eve.  Eddie driving colts & Ned carried Thomas Wm home on jumper with one.  How often I have thought of dear H.  heard that Amos dow was dead about the age of Wm I believe.

 6th Beautiful day.  Eddie & I went to funeral of Mrs L Abbott out to the Baptist House.  She was most 90 yrs old.  Elias Wixon spoke, his remarks were very good.  How much I have thought of H. The last time I was there, H went with me, but I enjoyed going with Eddie  to day.  6 children went to school.  F & Stevie gone this eve.

 7th Nice day to wash.  About 9 this morn Ralph was out sliding & it was clear off hung by the skin Dr thinks broke on of his fingers ^ & took the nail off another.  Ned went  Dr dined with us  he may save itto get Dr Goodrich as Eddie  was gone, but got back when Dr came.  at Lorenzo Abbot'sRalph done nicely. About 7 last night, Mr Lancey had a shock ^ Dr G was there all night.  This morn had Dr Bessie both thought he would'nt live long 76 yrs old he remained unconscious when Dr left.  Lottie Clifford, Brother & 2 others called this eve.

                       Letter from Wm 15th

 Mar 1898

8th Another nice day.  Eddie gone to Augusta to night.  The camps were invited.  Frank went to caucus at the Fort.  They are talking about building another bridge at the fort.  Ellen Shaw is here .  Mr Lancey died this morn, his sons carried him to Pitts­field this afternoon how sudden!  I have mended & made sleeves to my wrapper.  I feel tired will go to bed soon as my head aches.  hope E gets home all right for it does not seem like Home when he is gone

 9th Springlike day.  Eddie & N went to Watt" this morn got wall paper for bedroom & small entry.  K went & helped sweep church in afternoon.  N ironed some, I sewed on my wrapper. Walter M came after F to night as Sidney was lame threatened with Rheumatic fever. E & Ned drove colts. Eddie  gone to bed has a little cold, did'nt get home till most 4 this morn.

11th Very foggy morn but it has been a warm bright day.  Churned & sewed, finished my wrapper.  Ned carried Ellen Shaw out to F Abbotts this morn.  Eddie went to K Mills in forenoon afternoon    split wood. Mr Wms up  Ned & K went to Grange.  Stevie up to C E   meeting Eddie has quite a cold, hope it will be better in the morn as several round have the Grippe.  Sue was married  46 yrs ago to day.  Fred B was also married. 

12th another foggy morn, rained little this afternoon & does this.  K stopped with Lottie Clifford.  N & Mary done work.  I mended.  Guess all are tired, I am.

13th Mild misty day, rains little this eve.  Stevie gone up to prayer meeting.  Mr Wms stops. I should like to go in. Frank came Sidney betterover.  Ned carried him back.  Dr G called dressed Ralph's finger, it's doing nicely.  Must go to bed  good night

 14th Nice day little cooler & wind blew just enough to dry our clothes & all are in. Wind Blows this eve.  Town meeting in Benton & Winslow, Dunning, Alden Bassett, & Sidney Fuller are Selectmen.  Scott Drummond Road Commissioner.  School committee Geo" Paine, C Warren & ____.  They also chose a committee of 7 to examine the Bridge & see about building a new one or repairing the old one, which has been built over 60 yrs.  Must go to bed, for I did'nt sleep very well last night & my back aches.

 15th Another nice day.  Mr Herman Scribner is here. Whites all the rooms  washing & papering bedrooms & little entry. N has cooked.  I have ironed in forenoon, then mended.  Feel pretty tired how much I miss H.  Our home was pleasant.

16th Cloudy most of the day, spit little snow, seems cooler.  I have mended hose & Eddie & Ned scraped overhead in Kitchen.  N done little of everything.  Stevie gone to reading club.

 17th Nice day. Snow is wasting fast.  Mr Scribner got done went his son helped him in afternoon awhilehome about 4.  Eddie paid him 6.50 was here most 3 days.  Kate came home to night.  Nell has a lame neck & shoulders. I have mended.  Lucy Reed has an entertainment, close of Her school.  Eddie carried Rufus, Mary & Ruth up.  The hall was crowded had a good time.  I like to see children happy & enjoy life also obey their parents. 

18th Spring like day. Nell's neck pretty lame did'nt sleep very well last night, neither did I. F churned I dressed butter & washed dishes. K cleaned both bedrooms & she & Ned put down   then went to Grangecarpets^   How I do miss H but he is better off & at rest - for which I sigh, but hope I shall not murmur.

 19th Dark lonesome day. Nellie's neck not much better.  E cleaned Hen House, worked round barn.  It has rained some. K & Mary done work. I have mended & thought of friends far away and those at rest in a better world. 

20th Bright to day although it rained last night.  I went tot church in a pung, but most went in a wagon.  wind blows hard this eve.  None went but Stevie & F stopped at Annie's to tea, quite a good number out.  Had a good sermon while in church.  Thought so often of H for he would have liked the sermon.  I must go to bed as I feel tired & sleepy.

 21st Nice day to wash clothes dry & in.  Eddie  K & Ralph went to Watt" this afternoon got Ralph's finger done up, it is doing nicely.  I helped little about the washing.  It has seemed a long long day, no one to talk with.

 22nd Another nice day but this eve rained.  In South looks like rain.  Fred Mc" buried under the Masons from China his brother Scott is very wild funeral at the church Scott did'nt go in.  Eddie  stayed with him.  Mr Wms attended   church full.  Wm Hodges died yesterday morn. 

23rd Cloudy in forenoon but cleared off.  Wm Hodges buried to day.  K cleaned front chamber & she & Ned put down carpet.  N & Mary done work.  Eddie & I been looking over some papers of his         f­ather's. At times seemed as though he was with us.

 Mar 1898

24th Nice bright day, and again we are reminded that this is not  George's motherour home: when Mr Holt came in & said old Mrs Withee^  died this   heart troublemorn, very sudden was sick only about 25 minutes was round & out doors yesterday, as well as usual.  It says "Be ye also ready".  I took my carpet up & partly cleaned my room.  Should have fin­ished, but Kate H called this morn & Marcia Crosby came before noon stopped till after 3. K finished front chamber.  They carried Scott McQuillkin to insane hospital to day 

25th Beautiful day. Ned & K went to a Grange meeting to day down to the Fort.  Churned & finished cleaning in my room.  N & Mary done work.  Eddie  & F worked on road.  Been looking over some papers of H's which makes me sad & lonely.  must go to bed. 

26th Nice day.  Mrs Withee buried at the Fort, Eddie & Ned went to funeral.  Eddie, Augustine, Mr King & Palmer were bearers.  E has head ache to night.  K & Ned put my carpet down so I have got settled & Kate took up hall carpet & stair.  Think all are tired, I am, will go to bed.

27th Beautiful day.  Eddie, N & 4 children went to church.  N went in to see Lucy Reed she is sick.  Mary Rideout is with her.  F did'nt come over to day.  It has been a long day to me.  wish I was near the church would go in to the prayer meeting this eve.  How many times H & I have been to neetings together and enjoyed them.

 28th Nice day to wash.  They had a large one .  I helped in forenoon then thought I better stop.  They brought all clothes in as they were dry & it looks cloudy.  Eddie  went to Mills with colt after dinner.  He & F split wood in forenoon.  My prayer to night is "Nearer my God to thee".

 29th Cloudy all day.  Eddie, K & Ralph went to Watt" this fore­  fingernoon as Dr wanted to see it ^ again.  It is doing well & his mother can do it up now.  Kate went to see Miss Bosworth, dress­maker, & she wants her tomorrow morn.  They got home at 12 and at half past 3 Eddie  went down with her.  I hope she will do well & prosper so that we at home will be rich, if it is for the best. we shall miss her.  I miss F very much.  We have ironed to day, Good job done. 

30th Nice bright day.  Eddie  went to the Mills , got some corn & grass seed.  Boys split some wood.  Ned went over to Fullers.  N   cooked.  I cleaned front stairs & hall below. N put carpet down in hall above.  E heard that Fred Brown(Nat's son) died this morn been sick a long time.  "One by one are passing over". 

            Sent letter to Sue 4th  got one from her saying Mrs Soule died the 20th  of March   Was 87 the 11th  of   "

31st Cloudy morn, began to snow about 8 & has all day, wind blows to night.  Eddie & Ned brought logs for Augustine C down to the mill in forenoon & Ned worked for James afternoon & E called down to F Hodges.  Finds very unwell E says he looks badly, he is bloated all over.  I wiped some in sitting room & mended.  N & M done work & N put down stair carpet.  I must go to bed. 

Apr lst  It cleared off last night  & it has been a bright day.  It is a beautiful eve.  Jo" Reed & Neddie gone down to the Grange.  Eddie hauled 2 loads Phosphate for C Warren from the Fort on Sled.  Wind blew snow last night so there was some bare ground.  Churned & mended, N & M cooked.  Fred Brown buried to day.

 2nd Another bright day quite cool to night & cloudy.  E hauled a little wood from side of road by Winfield's in forenoon then went to the Mills. Rufus spent part the day at Annie's.  I cooked, put on paper in little Entry & wiped windows in sitting room & mended.  Eddie is reading news about war; I thought if H was living how anxious he would be.

 3rd When I got up it was snowing hard , ground white but it but did not long, been a bright but quite cool day.  Eddie , N & 5 children went to church  good number out.  Mr Wms  & wife here to tea.  Frank came up & his father carried him over to night.  It is a cold night.  E says it is rough.  I must go to bed. 

4th Nice day to wash, not as cold as yesterday.  Eddie  & Ned picked Caterpillar Eggs from apple trees.  I am very tired will go to bed if not to sleep as it will rest me.  

5th Cloudy & snowed little.  Eddie & Ned got load Hay for Mr Coleman also load home from upper barn.  I ironed some & Nellie finished. Mary went up to H Reed's got some flower slips, N set them out to night.  I have mended for Fibbens  will go to bed as I did'nt sleep very well last night & felt all done. Fib went this morn down to Watt' to see his cousin.

 6th Cloudy, snowed little - Eddie  drove colts in forenoon in afternoon hauled logs for Augustine C.  I cleaned some in little Entry & mended.  N & M done work & sewed.  My head aches & will go to bed.

 7th Nice day quite cold in morn.  Eddie  hauled logs in forenoon for A C.  Afternoon went to Mill very bad on the Neck.  C warren called wanted Butter.  Nellie & M cleaned dish Closets & washed all the dishes.  I cleaned some in kitchen feel quite tired.  Fibbens got home to night  twins glad to see him

 8th Another nice day.  Eddie drove logs for A C in forenoon& then washed a double harness, went over once with oil.  Ned painted on cart.  F got in some wood & piled it up.  N & M cooked  I churned & cleaned in kitchen.  Ralph was sick last night & has been to day, his mother has held him some & he has slept , throat sore, hope he will be better in morn, but we never know what a day will bring forth.

 9th Nice Spring like day.  Eddie went over harness again & done chores,  boys got in wood.  E got Kate, Mary went down with him.  I have mended most all day.  Rethel has sore throat. N thinks they have tonsilitis she is doctoring them for it.  Emily Garland is sick again had the grippe, got better & has a relapse.  I must go to bed.

 10th Easter Sun" some went to church, but Eddie went to Watt" got Dr twins sick he called it Scarlettina Rash.  F came home & gone to carry Kate down, but she has been most sick all day hope she will be better in morn been abed most all day, did not go to church. 

11th Nice day to wash.  Eddie went to mill got his grist, then washed harness.  Ned hauled Phosphate for C Warren this after­noon. Frank put his bees out in corn barn this forenoon, some have died.  Ralph seems better but Rethel has laid on bed most of the time looks quite red, hope he will be better in morn.  Am tired will go to bed.  Roscoe Heywood told E his mother was quite unwell.

 12th Very foggy in morn, but been a nice day.  twins appear better but Rethel is quite spotted dont want anything to eat.  Ralph eats very little.  N has ironed some.  I have helped wash dishes & mended.  Alden Bassett took ablution to day.  F went to Watt' last night.  They met to drill, he brought home his uniform poor boy he knows little of war.  Ned is at C Warren's began to work yes" C wants him six months.  Eddie sold old cooking stove to Mr Green for five dollars.  I'm lonely to night.

 13th Nice Spring day, cooler than yesterday.  E finished oiling double harnesses then went to the Mills.  F took off double windows & put on Blinds & made a hogs' trough,  to night gone to Watt" to drill.  Ralph is better, but Rethel is sick, hope he will be better soon, Ruth not very well.  I have helped Mary about the work as N has her hands full, has to hold Rethel some & Pearl wants little attention.  Mrs Pomeroy (F Richards daughter) buried to day; left 3 little girls.  Procession passed here buried down in Winslow.  Am weary will go to bed.

14th Cloudy morn rained very little.  Eddie  has worked for Mr James in forenoon, after dinner harrowed for first Potatoes & Peas.  F & S for in wood.  Frank has been home sick all day,  has not eaten any thingdid'nt get up till 5 been vomiting^ took little gruel to night , hope he will be better in morn.  Rethel seems little better, they are good boys, but Ralph is quite fussy.  I have helped about work & mended hose & thought of absent friends. 

15th Sunshine & clouds.  Churned & helped about work  Rufus & Ruth are sick, & Rethel is'nt much better.  Frank is better.  I thought Neddie would be up, he is 18 yrs old to day, seems like a dream.

 16th Sunshine & clouds.  Ruth & Rufus have'nt been dressed to day & Rethel has the Canker in his mouth, very sore.  Dr was in said they were getting along as well as he expected.  F went to Watt" saw Kate, she is well, her mother thought she better not come up. much I have thought of HEddie worked 7 hours for Augustine C hauling lumber.

 17th Nice Spring day.  Mr      preached for Mr Wms  none went from here.  Rufus & Ruth have'nt dressed.  Eddie held them awhile.  Rethel's mouth is very sore , but I think they are gaining slowly.  This has been a long lonely day to me but will not murmur. 

18th Nice day to wash clothes  dry & in.  Eddie  plowed part of forenoon for Amos Hinds, then planted 1 bush Potatoes.  F gone to Watt" to night, should be glad if he heard that Spain had yielded & there would be no war.  E put in few more Peas. 

19th Nice day but clouded up towards night & this eve it is very dark.  Eddie , F & S planted 2 bush Potatoes, then F & L cleaned out the Cistern. Geo" Patterson, Chairman of the Board of health came to night & quarantined us, put up a card on the house case of scarlet fever,  Pearl is quite unwell.  Rethel & Rufus are better, Ruth says she feels better but is sick. F went to mill heard that Mr Dow at Brown's Corner died yes" his wife died a short time ago, he took poison, they thought him insane. 

20th Cloudy all day, rained little. E & F plowed 1/2 acre, done chores.  Children are getting along nicely.  Ruth is very quiet yet, Pearl is too & to night Mary dont feel very well.  I mended little & helped some. Nellie has her hands full hope she wont have it.  Saw in the paper that Mrs Cyrus Howard had a shock the 11th  & died the 15th was most 78 yrs old. It says to all watch, be Ye ready".

 21st Sunshine & showery.  E plowed little. Hope all are gaining but Ruth is quite sick & weak.  Flo Warren drove up to the door to night & left Cookies, Cake, & a pail of doughnuts & letter in a pail,  She never had the scarlet fever, said she thought she could save few steps by cooking for us.  I thought surely  the "Lord will provide" Let  us all trust in him.

 22Nd Nice day but quite cool.  Eddie  been harrowing, L picking rocks.  F carried Box Butter to Depot then went yo Watt" saw K she is well.  Children seem better. Mr Wms called to the door think he was going up to C E Meeting.  Churned & put up Butter for Old Town.  Was very tired My back & shoulders ache.

 23rd Bright nice day although it sprinkled in morn.  Eddie been harrowing & picking rocks.  Dr called this morn said children doing well, but this afternoon Ruth has come out with large red spots & this eve F gone down to have Dr come up as Nellie dont know what to do.  I have been busy. 

24th Dark rainy day.  Cistern half full.  think Mr W did not come up as it rained very hard in the middle of the day.  It has been a very long day to me.  Dr called Ruth seems better than last night.  The others are gaining.  Had fresh fish for supper, they were nice.  F caught them in Eddy yesterday.  Wind blows this eve sounds like winter.  This is the last Sab" in April.  How fast time goes. 

25th Cloudy most all day wind has blown.  We hung white clothes out did not finish as it rained .  F gone to Watt' this eve.  Eddie  bought 25 apple trees gave 4.00: set out 5 then it rained. Dr called Ruth seems to be good deal better, hope she will continue to gain.

 26th It has been a bright, windy day, quite cold.  clothes dry and ironed that we washed yes" & N has washed few to day.  They set out rest of apple trees & E got 5 little Cherry trees of C Warren & he & F set them out.  E & L picked rocks till tea time.  After tea Eddie  went to Watt" with F.. H wanted to see a man.  Ruth is improving slowly hope none will get cold. F & his father got home about 11. 

27th Bright day. F & his mother washed some flannel & his coat.  I have helped some & mended.  Eddie & L picked rocks & harrowed.  F went to Mill heard that Frank Gifford had Pneumonia, also that Mr Sylvester had left Ann but I cant think it.  Ann,  Sue & Alice passed here to day. think they went down to Emily's as she is very sick. I did'nt sleep well last night will go to bed.

 28th Bright windy cold day.  Eddie says he wore his mittens when plowing.  F & his mother washed 5 blankets, then he began to make wood Box for kitchen, to night gone to Watt to drill.  I have helped about work & mended hose. My arm very lame.  I would like to read news but must go to bed as I have not slept well lately.

29th Dark rainy day.  Eddie took care of wood then churned & worked butter.  F did'nt get home till late last night, finished wood box tis nice.  Ruth is gaining but Mary been sick most all day, been vomiting.  Nell has her hands full.  I do what I can.

 30th Sunshine & clouds & little sprinkling.  E & L fenced in forenoon after dinner harrowed.  F got Lady shod, we all been busy, at least I feel as though I had.  Eddie went down to W with F.  Mary has'nt been up to day, Ruth sit up 2 hours.  How much I have thought of H. 

May 1st Beautiful day. F went to Watt this forenoon, Mr Spencer delivered an address to the Members of Militia, in the afternoon attended the funeral of Young Barnes, one of the Co", he was drowned at Pittsfield last week.  A great crowd, the Methodist Minister spoke.  Mary is quite sick, Dr up to night she has a high fever.  Rethel's throat troubles him.

 2nd Nice day to wash, clothes all dry & in.  Eddie & Ned went down with F about 10 A M.   F went took dinner with Kate.  E said streets & side-walks were crowded.  Mills shut down, stores closed schools college & all the different organizations.  Train left 15 of 5 for Augusta.  E said F went off in good spirits but I know he felt sad, hope it is all for the best.  I have worked & thought of absent friends.  My prayer is that I may do some little good in the short time I may live good night.

 3rd Another nice day.  It seems as though I had'nt done much but am very tired.  Mary appears better.  N a had card from F he said they did'nt get to camp till 8 oclock then it was his luck to be on guard duty from 11 to 1 & from 5 to 7.  Think he will be sleepy to night - at least I am.  C Wood killed a Pig, E Pd him     50 cts.

 $th Sprinkled little this morn but it has been a beautiful day.  We have ironed & Mary seems better.  E sowed 3 acres of Oats the first.  Cut up his pig & Stevie painted cart wheels, has head ache to night.

5th Warmer.  E sowed grass seed & harrowed.  L picked rocks.  Nellie & Stevie washed 6 blankets & other things they are dry & in as it rains little to night.  As N  was writing F I wrote a line after I got done cookies.  E turned sheep out a little while, got them in before it rained.  E sold wool to Emery of Watt" had 1631/2 lbs got 20 cts a lb amt $52.70

 6th Nice day. E  yarded logs for James ____ Hours then harrowed. After dinner carried Barley over to storage, got work horses shod.  L & S got in wood.  L churned - all been busy.  Mr Wms called at the door, came up to C E meeting, wish I could stop in. 

7th Beautiful day.  E brushed in grass seed then harrowed.  He says when there is not much frost in ground it takes longer to work the ground.  S & L picked rocks in forenoon then planted 1/2 bush Potatoes.  All busy in house.  have thought of H many times & of Frank.  E gave Ruth, Rufus & twins a short ride.  4 weeks ago to day Dr came to see twins for the first time.

 8th Nice day.  It has been 4 weeks since Kate been home.  It seems lonely to have so many away K, F, H, & Ned.  I hope chil­dren won"t get cold.  Mary is better.  I often think of what Amanda wrote.

 9th Beautiful day to wash.  Eddie plowed for Amos in forenoon afternoon planted ____rows of corn.  Libbens says C Hunt was 62 yrs old yesterday.  Fannie Hunt & Marcia Lunt keeping school at the corner.  Lucy Reed sits up little, not very smart. 

 10th Arbor Day.  E & boys fixed fence turned cows out first time.  After dinner E harrowed.  L & Stevie finished planting Potatoes in all about 5 bush".  We have ironed & Nell & L put in her garden seeds.  Mary was dressed & came to the table.  Ruth & the boys been out good deal to day hope they wont get sick again. F wrote he had a sore throat, hope he wont be sick, wants his mother to send him a pound of butter that he could put in cook tent

 11th Windy all day, Cloudy afternoon.  Eddie  has worked for C Warren.  Stevie went to the Mills to get some Canada Peas & carry some butter to send to F in forenoon then he and his mother put in garden seeds.  L picked rocks & he & S fixed fence.  I mended some & helped round till 5 then I came in & laid down an hour, was tired & thought of absent friends.

 12th Cloudy early in morn, about 8 Sun shone out & has all day but been windy & cold.  L & S got in all of the hard wood.  Eddie been at work for C Warren.  N ironed clothes for K & cooked.  I  when E is gone how much I think of Hhelped & mended hose & mittens.  Am quite lame in left knee must go to bed.

13th Nice day. Eddie sowed Oats & Peas.  N worked in front yard, sowed some seeds.  Churned & mended & washed dishes.  Heard that Mr H Drake had a shock yes" at Mr Skillins. Mr Mr Wms called at the door on his way up to C E Meeting

 14th Beautiful day.  Eddie & boys picked rocks & harrowed.  After tea E went to Watt" got Frank as his Regiment came home. Carried clothes to Kate, she went up to Mae Snelgroves last night.

 15th Another nice day, grows cooler towards night.  Mr Drake is failing.  Eddie & I went down to the grave where his father lies, or rather his body, for I trust and know his Spirit is in Heaven.  I could'nt make it seem while in the yard, that he was there.  My Prayer is that I may live as to meet him & all dear friends never to part.

 16th Cloudy all day, rains little this eve.  F gone to watt to drill.  Eddie  harrowed in forenoon then planted rest of his Early Corn.  We washed white clothes in tubs. O how much I have thought of past days. I dreamed of seeing H down to the old house last night.

17th Cleared off this morn, been a bright windy day. I put white clothes out this morn, they are dry and ironed.  Nell & Stevie washed 5 Blankets & 8 quilts. F filled 2 beds & moved Cot bed out of sitting room.  N has straighten out her bedrooms.  F fumigated them yesterday, & they all slept upstairs.

 18th Nice day.  Eddie worked for C W, L picked rocks , Stevie killed Caterpillars in little orchard.  N washed some & cooked.  I mended pants & hose & leggins & little beside, but I feel tired.  while mending how much I thought of friends "not lost but gone before" & thought what Sister Sue wrote.  Our turn will come soon.  Mr Drake died last night.

 19th Some cloudy & sunshine.  Eddie  finished sowing Barley, the last.  Stevie killed Caterpiller.  F put screen door on & put in Crabberry beans.  to night gone to Watt. N cooked & worked in attic.  I have mended all day, saw in the paper that Mrs Caroline         has lived in Bangor several yrs was ___ yrs old(Paine) Mills died the 15th at Jennie Howards.  She & her sister have been taking care of, her she was insane.  "One by one are passing over", soon my turn will come, may I be ready. 

20th Nice warm day, but quite windy.  E & boys harrowed & picked rocks.  F put on screens & chored, gone to Grange to night. Neddie came home last night, was'nt very well, but went back this morn.  Churned & mended. N cooked & ironed K's clothes .  Mr Drake buried to day.

21st Another nice day.  Eddie  & L worked with the horses for Mr Coleman.  F went this afternoon to fight fire.  Warren Fuller set fire to a brush heap & it run up onto Mr Woods'.  Several men were there but thought no danger now.  Nell & Ruth went down got Kate she has'nt been home for six weeks.  F & Ned went to Grange last night.  K was over. I am tired must go to bed.

 22nd Nice bright day.  Eddie , wife, F, Ned & Ruth went to church.  Kate staid at home .  F & Rufus gone to carry K down.  She said Mr & Mrs Wardwell both were dead, that lived on A Learned farm.  She had been sick some time, Nervous prostration,    took off my winter flannelshe had Pneumonia.  What changes!  All the children at home to day.  It has'nt seemed like Sunday; perhaps the fault is in me.  Have thought of absent friends. 

23rd Nice day to wash, dry & folded, did not finish flannels.  Eddie worked for Mr Coleman.  F & L fixed fence in forenoon. F gone to Watt" to drill.  Hope they wont have to go.  Stevie, Rufus & Ruth began to go to school,  N thought Mary better not go as she has not got done itching.  E sold 4 early lambs to G Reynolds got 12 dollars. 

24th Cloudy morn, rained little in forenoon. Eddie & L hauled off rocks. Afternoon E worked for C Thomas just at night began to rain.  When E was coming home the old horse was taken sick fell down.  E  bled him & got him home, is better.  We have ironed & I have mended some.  A Mr Haley hung himself at Watt. 

25th Cloudy rained some last night & has to day little.  F & L been hauling rocks.  Crows took some of E's early corn, F shot one so left in on field. I am tired must go to bed. 

26th Cleared away this morn, been a warm nice day.  Eddie worked for C Thomas. I mended L's undershirts & drawers & about 1/2 past 2 took a walk to Hattie's, got back most 5  Mr H has changed since I saw him.  N & Mary been busy.  F & L worked little in Blackberry bushes. F put in some six wks' beans.  How much I have thought of H to day. 

27th Cloudy & rained some.  Eddie  worked for Coleman till 10 then it rained & he came home.  After dinner went down to Mr Horn"s to get road bill.  F gone to Watt to drill.  I have mended put up Butter for Old Town.  Ruth did'nt go to school, did not feel very well.  saw by the paper that Col" Britton was sick.

 28th Nice day. Eddie cultivated Potatoes.  L & Stevie hoed.  Churned & sewed, made curtains for middle chamber.  About 3 E went down to camp, then got F got home about 8 hungary.

 29th Cloudy, rained little.  Eddie  & 4 children went to church.  Mr & Mrs Wms stopped here to tea.  I was glad to see them at the table, but I thought how glad H used to be when they called.  Eddie  makes me think of his father in that respect.  E & N rode over to Mae Snelgroves on an errand after tea.  Mrs W said Mrs Carpenter was buried yes" had a shock.

 30th Memorial Day.  Cloudy rained little in forenoon, then after dinner put white clothes out, a rainbow to night.  E carried F, K & Stevie down to Watt" this morn, after dinner went with Mary, Ruth, Rufus & twins, got home about 5 & this eve gone to meet F as he has been marching most of the afternoon. Libbens went to K Mills, said their Hall was crowded, to hear the address.  I must stop for I am very tired & think Nell must be.

 31st Nice day. Nell & L finished washing good many flannels.  Clothes all dry, in & folded. I mended some. F fixed twins cart.  I am sleepy, I did'nt sleep well last night will go to bed.  Eddie worked for Mr Coleman sowing & harrowing.

 June 1st Bright. Eddie  worked 1/2 day for Mr C.  L picked rocks. F went to the Mills got Dandy shod & see to bees.  Nell & I have ironed & I have mended some.  Will go to bed, I overslept this morn & N had breakfast ready.  Eddie & Pearl came in called me.

 2nd Cloudy all day rained little,  E burned some brush & fixed fence. L churned I dressed Butter had 16 1/4 lbs. then mended hose & mittens. Nell cooked as usual & cleaned coolers.  F went to Watt" in forenoon.  Effie (Reed) Davis is at her mothers.  Hearing of Col B's death brought up fresh the past.  Mrs B will miss him.

3rd Cloudy rainy day, fields look very green.  Eddie  & L cleaned & swept cellar then E went to Blacksmith shop got old mowing machine fixed, he sold it to Henry Reed for 8.00.  Nell cooked, I mended Ned's overalls.  It looks like a rainy night.  Pitt Heald came to Benton one night, went back the next, on business.  I did'nt see him.  It has been a long lonesome day to me.

4th Nice day. E harrowed his corn ground again,  Nell has been as busy as a bee.  I helped &mended. F began to put up some paper in shed, went fishing.  At night went got Kate and Bertha Mantor came up with her, Mrs Bosworth's Niece.

 5th Another nice day. Eddie, N & 4 children been to church.  K  she is 1 year oldtook care of Pearl.  Eddie gone to carry them down to night.  Orrin Brown brought Ida Dicky over to Hatties to day.  Poor  girl I pity her.  I have written to Wilmer & Nett.  Nell said Eliza B & Henrietta Hinds was at church also Sidney Fuller, wife & 2 girls & boy. 

6th Nice day to wash had a large one did not finish.  C Thomas came planted E's corn & they wanted to finish it so did not come to dinner till most 2 oclock.  F gone to Watt" to drill.

June 1898

 7th Beautiful day.  Eddie went to Augusta as delegate to a County Convention.  Churned & N finished washing.  I went down to Hatties.  Ida is a sick looking girl, did not know me.  Mr H been out on Platform.  Mrs A Hodges called while I was gone.  Mr Wms & wife called on their way to H Reed's.  Led his horse up, it is lame.  E pastures it awhile with our colts.

 8th Nice forenoon, clouded up has thundered & rains little.  Eddie  went out to Mr Woods this morn, this afternoon put hams smoking & cultivated.  F gone to Watt".  We have ironed partly & I have mended mittens & hose.  Am very tired did not sleep very well last night.

 9th Rained at 4 this morn, but before 6 sun shone, been quite warm.  Mr Reynolds up bought the hay at 7 dollars a ton, very low but E said he had'nt room.  F mowed back of house.  N finished ironing & cooked I mended hose & sewed some.  E gone to Watt" with colt, wants to sell it.

 10th Nice day, quite cool this eve.  Nell has cooked most all day.  L churned, I sewed.  Eddie sold his Colt Dandy to Walter Maddocks for 110 dollars.  I am glad as he has 2 others.  After tea N took Baby in carriage went down to Hattie's.  Ida seems to be failing.  Poor girl I am glad that she is at Hattie's, how much I have thought of H also of distant friends far away who are sick.  Must go to bed.

 11th Cloudy & rainy in afternoon.  Nellie, Stevie Rufus & twins went to Watt got some clothes for them - got home about noon.  E mowed round upper Barn hauled it down, set out tomato plants & chored.  To night gone up to Merritt Reed's.  It is chilly. must go to bed. 

12th Sunshine & cloudy.  Sprinkled little to night.  Stevie went over got Joan this morn.  H came home last night.  Eddie gone to carry them back.  Eddie, Nell & 6 children went to church.  How much I have missed H to day.  It is lonely to night.

 13th Cloudy morn but cleared off quite warm.  Clothes dry, part in.  E cultivated & went to mill & to see hay pressers  think all are tired.

 14th Cloudy all day, rained little,  after dinner E & I went to Watt, called to Henry Garland's.  Emily is better.  Nellie ironed some & cooked.  After tea E went again to Watt, carried my Bonnet to be trimmed & key to Kate's trunk that was up here. I am tired.

 15th  Bright nice day.  Churned & mended hose N cooked & ironed some. Mr Tuttle hoed for E.  Stevie staid at home rode horse for his father to cultivate.  Heard that Mrs Wm Brown was very sick.

 16th Nice day. 4 Hay pressers & G Reynolds press came this morn.  E went with 2 loads this afternoon.  Tuttle hoed & C Thomas in forenoon.  We have got 3 meals & N has ironed.  I have Pants & feel tired.  Did not sleep very well last night, guess we will be glad to go to bed.

 17th Beautiful day.  I have mended.  Marcia Crosby called.  E been with 4 loads & Mr Pooler 2.  Am very sleepy.

 18th Nice day, but to night quite cool.  Pressers went home after dinner.  E hauled 4 loads & to night gone down after K.  Think N must be tired.  When E went down I went down to Hattie's.  Ida seemed to know me she is very weak  Dr thinks she cant live long, but she may. 

19th Cloudy all day, rained little & does this eve.  Eddie, N & 6 Children went to church.  Children's Day.  Neddie carried K to Watt after tea.  Concert this eve Eddie & 4 children gone. I must go to bed. Pressers come to night.

20th Nice day to wash, but did'nt finish, dry & in.  E said they had a nice Concert, Church full if it did rain.  I should liked to have gone, but get tired Sundays as well as other days.  E went with 3 loads then helped move Pressers down to this barn.  How much I have thought of H to day while working.

 21st Rain & showers.  E went with 3 loads, Mr pooler went with 2    E sold colt to Reynoldsall out upper barn.  Churned & ironed, N cooked & sewed.  She had breakfast most ready when I got up.  This is the longest day in the year. 

 22nd Nice day.  Eddie  been with 2 loads this afternoon.  After dinner Nell & Rufus went to K Mills.  R had toothache, face swollen, it was ulcerated.  Dr thought best not to take it out to day.  About 6 had a little shower & it looks showery.

 23rd Bright nice day.  Pressers got done about 11 ate dinner then Eddie helped move them to Wm Clifford's.  E went with 3 loads, so did Mr Pooler.  I mended hose,  just before tea I went out in garden got strawberries for tea, the first.  Stevie gone to C E meeting. 

24th Nice day.  E went with 3 loads, Mr Pooler 2; was here to dinner.  We washed some as pressers are gone.  I swept my room and picked some strawberries for tea.  While in the garden, I thought so much of H. I must go to bed most 9 oclock.

 25th Sunshine & cloudy, sprinkled little, been very warm.  Churned & mended little.  It is Saturday night, how quick the weeks pass by, one week nearer my Home above where I hope to meet dear friends.

 26th Beautiful day, quite warm.  Mr_____ from Getchells Corner preached, all said a very good sermon.  I went could hear part of it.  E and I rode down to Hattie's.  L had'nt been up to day & Ida was'nt so well, glad she is with Hattie.  Mrs McCaslin is there, takes care of Ida & helps H.  Lucy is at home.  Must go to bed. 

27th Nice day to wash but did'nt get done.  Eddie went with 2 loads hay, the last and hauled over a Piano for Fannie Hunt from Sep???.  C Thomas & Frank hoed all day & O Tuttle in afternoon.  F gone to Watt to drill, think he will be tired.  How much I think of H when I am tired; no one to Sympathise with me, but will not murmur.

28th Sunshine & cloudy, cooler.  F put horse in stable at W, a man from K Mills put one in also, he went for his before F did & took F's through mistake & brought it back in morn.  F came up & his father went down with him, met man coming up with Lady.  At first, thought someone had stolen it.  I worked butter, washed shelves in celler set milk there to night.  Tuttle & Lib hoed all day in afternoon Eddie , F & Ned Hodges.  N ironed some & cooked.  I mended.

 29th Nice day.  Eddie, F,  L hoed all day.  G Hodges & Stevie in afternoon.  N & Stevie washed colored clothes in forenoon then N cooked & after tea she took Pearl in carriage called to C Warren's

 30th Beautiful day in forenoon Put up Butter & mended afternoon as E was going to Watt" I went up to Eliza Barton's Henrietta was there; spent a pleasant afternoon & took tea they seemed very glad to see me.  My head aches must go to bed.
